Food was great but service has to improve. Our glass of water was empty almost throughout the way. Food came out fast after we ordered our "usual". The quality of our selected items have improved. Flavorful and aromatic. Inside has been the same. Parking was always horrible and still is. Just be prepared when you pay a visit. Sometimes you'll get lucky and sometimes you don't. Overall it's a pretty good dim sum place to get your fix without going too far like Alhambra or Monterey Park.

I came by on a Monday evening with my mom. We ordered the juicy pork dumplings ($12.95), beef wrap ($12.99), seafood & tofu in casserole ($16.95), and e fu noodles with lobster ($20.99). Everything was fresh and delicious, and portion sizes were generous. Juicy pork dumplings aka soup dumplings were filled with broth and wrapped in skin that was not too thick. They were not as good as soup dumplings from Din Tai Fung, but they are definitely good enough to satisfy the craving. Beef wrap was nicely balanced with hoisin sauce, cucumber, green onion pancake and tender beef. They were good both fresh and as leftovers the next day! The seafood and tofu pot was seasoned well with a good amount and variety of seafood. E fu noodles with lobster were the star of the show! It is rare to see it at such a low price point, and the quality did not reflect the low cost! The lobster was fresh, firm and sweet in flavor. The e fu noodles beautifully absorbed all that lobster sauce and flavor but were still a delightful al dente and chewy texture. They have a parking lot which means free parking (a rare find in DTLA)!! This is definitely a solid option for Chinese food, and I would recommend it for people looking for options beyond typical Cantonese cuisine.

Whenever I am craving Chinese food, I always find myself back Mama Lu. Though I do find the interior and ambience a little dull inside, I always get a friendly server who sits me quickly and gives me a pot of complementary hot tea and this time was no different. I was feeling more adventurous during this visit and wanted to try some dishes I've never ordered here. I settled on the Yang chow fried rice, beef wrap, honey garlic pork chop, string beans and kung pow shrimp. All of the entrées were executed perfectly with the beef wrap really being my usual favorite. The Kung pow shrimp was also really nice because they did not get stingy on the shrimp and the flavor was great. The honey garlic pork chop was so sweet, It was almost like a dessert, but it was perfectly crispy and I wasn't bothered by the high sugar content. Really you can't go wrong with anything on Mama Lu's menu. I'll continue to come back here whenever I get another Chinese food craving!

Faster service than fast food ! Quality better than most fast foods. Whether opting to sit down or take out which is even more reasonably priced. We like this location more than Pasadena. Easy to park and great for quick bites ( the quickest lol ) sit down or take out. Quality is good and competitive to more popular dim sum places, better than others. We chose to sit down for brunch. Other than dim sums the menu offers other dishes and portion size is large enough to share with 4 people. Hot tea served in tea pots with fresh tea leaves are perfect complement. Take outs are super reasonable and crunchy shrimp to small fish, clams and eggplants , they are super filling and good. Good stop in Chinatown.

What an incredible meal! Mama Lu's never disappoints and will leave you 100% satisfied. Every bite was a wow with bursts of flavors. I loved everything that we ordered and it's definitely a place that I like coming back to. The service was great! The kind hospitality of the staff and a warm welcome really made me feel at home. The ambience is definitely a place where you take family and friends to celebrate any occasion. It was a friendly environment and conducive to knowing that you will be pleased with your meal.

I've been to the location in 626 and was pleasantly surprised to find that another location closer to central LA exists - and with free lot parking! So naturally Mama Lu's is the place my party of 3 chose to go for some good-value, good-taste Chinese dim sum following a Saturday morning hike. We arrived around 11 and there were a few spots available in the lot and no wait for a table. We walked in to a semi decorated, Chinese banquet-esque large and lit room which smelled as a good Chinese restaurant should (but also with good ventilation!) We did have to wait a little for service in between ordering from the dim sum cart and menu items but it just made us anticipate the meal more! We ordered a plentiful amount: - beef and shrimp cheung fen: these were probably the least yummy item we had. the sauce drizzled on top could have been a bit more generous and the beef cheung fen in particular was surprisingly lacking flavor - har gao: good juicy shrimp inside but the rice wrapper was too thick - shumai: delicious, meaty, and plump! these were a yummy staple - xiao long bao: unfortunately the bao were placed a bit too close together on the steamer rack, so when we chopsticked one to eat it was a little stuck to its neighbor and ripped, spilling out the soup :( but the flavor and quality was good, both of the dough and filling, and the ginger vinegar dipping sauce good - sauteed green beans: our favorite dish collectively, the large portion of crispy seasoned beans was yummy and inspires you to keep eating! - cocktail bao: just okay, but custardy and a good take-home leftover for the next day's breakfast - beef chow fun: very yummy with good portions of all ingredients and some wok hei. I enjoyed the crisp bean sprouts and tender beef - turnip cake: yummy flavor with bits of meat and crispy exterior. it did taste a little starchy so maybe having a little more turnip and a little less cornstarch would be desirable Overall I was particularly pleased with the location, parking, and price of this Mama Lu's, as well as the green beans. the dimsum were overall good although each could have used a bit of improvement, and the service was classically and authentically Chinese which is part of the experience (although they did do a good job refilling waters and tea). a good brunch that left us full for hours!
